THE BEST OF TIMES
1. The moratorium on the development of physician owned hospitals ends.
This past year, in August of 2006, after an initial legislative
moratorium passed as part of the Medicare Modernization Act and a
subsequent extension of the moratorium, the prohibition on the
develpment on new hospitals by physicians ended. Thus, for the first
time in several years, physicians no longer face a prohibition of
developing a new hospital and becoming Medicare certified.
