Pharmaceutical companies around the world signed the Declaration on Combating Antimicrobial Resistance to address the pressing issue of drug-resistant infections, according to PharmExec.com.

1. Presented at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the declaration calls on governments to work with healthcare industries to advance the research on antimicrobial resistance.

2. More than 80 pharmaceutical companies globally are driving the movement for change.

3. The UK Review on Antimicrobial Resistance predicts drug-resistance infections could cause 10 million deaths globally every year by 2050.

4. Without action, the total loss from global output could reach $100 trillion by 2015.

5. The declaration focuses on decreasing drug resistance with the development of new antibiotics, increasing research and increasing access to better antibiotics.
