The investigations will examine whether or not Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Capital BlueCross, Highmark and Independence Blue Cross used their market share to restrict competition.

The companies were accused by the Pennsylvania Medical Society for restricting competition in the report.

The insurers have agreed to cooperate with the investigations, which are expected to be completed early next year.
