Payors Launching More Telehealth Programs

Insurers are launching telehealth programs as remote health grows in popularity, according to a Fierce Health IT report.

Among recent payors to launch the programs catering to remote care are Highmark, which launched a virtual physician visit pilot program allowing members to contact a Teladoc physician about minor illnesses; Humana, which has provided with interactive remote monitoring devices to its Medicare members with congestive heart failure; and UnitedHealthcare, which this week donated $700,000 toward research to help expand telemedicine training and support for rural and underserved clinics and hospitals in California.
