Patients Put Off Orthopedic Procedures, Hurt Medical Device Market

Patients are waiting longer to undergo orthopedic procedures because they fear losing their jobs or lack health insurance, according to a Reuters report.

This could have serious implications for the medical device market, and analysts recently reduced growth predictions for orthopedic and cardiac device companies. The Reuters report quoted Michael Matson, an analyst with Mizuho Securities who reduced his growth forecast for hip and knee procedures from 3 percent to 1 percent for 2012.
