The government agency has issued a request for proposals to vendors who can establish an infrastructure to make direct messaging for quality reporting possible. Under this vision, hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers would be able to report healthcare-associated infection reports to the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network.
Currently, healthcare organizations that submit information to the CDC either report through their respective electronic health records, which requires uploading files, or through the Internet, which is labor intensive. Direct messaging may help streamline data submission.
Submissions for RFPs were due Sept. 12.
