Study: Ophthalmologists Shouldn’t Talk When Injecting Eyes

A new study suggests that ophthalmologists should not talk when standing over their patients and giving them a drug injection, according to a report by Reuters Health.

In the study, researchers at the Jules Stein Eye Institute simulated a typical eye injection appointment in an ophthalmologist’s office.

 

They found that in just a few minutes of conversation over an imaginary patient, unmasked subjects spewed out bacteria that could potentially land on the eyes and cause infection.
