She led her opponent, Democratic incumbent John Hall, 44 to 42 percent in an early-September poll commissioned by the Daily Kos, and the “Fivethirtyeight” blog by Nate Silver of The New York Times estimates that Dr. Hayworth has a 69.9 percent likelihood of winning the election.

Dr. Hayworth is a summa cum laude graduate of Princeton and was top of her class at Cornell University Medical College. She practiced ophthalmology for approximately 15 years both in solo practice and part of a large multispecialty group, which included her working at and being a shareholder in an ASC.  Dr. Hayworth considers ASCs to be cost-effective and convenient settings for surgical care, and she is an advocate for their use.  She also worked as a vice president and medical director of a healthcare communications company. Her husband, Scott D. Hayworth, MD, FACOG, is president and CEO of Mount Kisco Medical Group.
