Lance E. Faulkner from Tecumseh, Okla., has been indicted by a federal grand jury for healthcare fraud in connection with the sales of prosthetic limbs and components, according to a Department of Justice news release.
Mr. Faulkner owned and operated Heartland Orthotic Prosthetic Lab in Shawnee, Okla. It is alleged that Mr. Faulkner billed Medicare and Medicaid for beneficiaries who did not have prescriptions for prosthetics from licensed physicians. Instead, it is alleged he submitted physician names and identification numbers to the agencies while physicians had never treated the patients or prescribed prosthetics.
The indictment specifically alleges that Mr. Faulkner billed Medicare $47,000 on three separate occasions and $23,501 on three other occasions. In total, the indictment alleges Mr. Faulkner obtained approximately $4,948,699 from Medicare and $600,348 from Medicaid. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and mandatory restitution.
