Legislation in the Ohio Senate would require free-standing pain management clinics to be licensed by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy and to face increased rules and oversight. The law would also develop a drug take-back program to prevent addicts from accessing unused painkillers.
The State Medical Board of Ohio has named inappropriate prescribing its first priority and has already begun drafting rules that include requiring physicians to be board-certified in pain management, have an affiliation with a local hospital and use the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System, a prescription tracking program.
