The Republican governor has made abuse of prescription painkillers a top priority, visiting an area in southern Ohio that the Drug Enforcement Administration considers an epicenter for prescription painkiller abuse.
The Florida legislature recently approved stiffer penalties for doctors who over-prescribe painkillers and enacted tighter regulation of pharmacies. Other states have been considering similar legislation.
