Ohio Health System Cutting 300 Jobs

Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio, will eliminate 300 jobs by the end of February, according to Business First of Columbus.

The cuts, made in response to current economic conditions, represent 3.4 percent of the organizations 8,900 employees and will be concentrated in administration.

For the past few months, many employees had been asked to take paid or unpaid time off as patient volumes decreased, according to the report. The system has also tried to consolidate some of its business units.

These cuts will save the system an estimated $7 million a year, according to Business First of Columbus.
