The two women co-owned Heritage Home Care, where they were charges with submitting 15,000 false claims to Medicaid totaling approximately $600,000 from March 2003 to Jan. 2007.
Heritage Home Care provided personal care services to the elderly and disabled. In North Carolina, these services are only reimbursed by Medicaid if a physician authorizes the services. The two were accused of forging a physician’s signature, thereby submitting false claims to Medicaid, as well as billing the program for services not rendered. Ms. Brake and Ms. Miles pleaded guilty to the charges.
