In Kentucky, nurse anesthetists were granted greater medical authority following a decision from Gov. Steve Beshear to exempt certain medical facilities from the CMS requirement that CRNAs have physician supervision when administering anesthesia.
A 2011 law, meanwhile, granted optometrists the authority to perform certain procedures that were previously performed only by ophthalmologists, including laser procedures sometimes needed after cataract surgery.
