The Manhattan Endoscopy Center recently received New York State Department of Health approval and began caring for patients this month.
The ambulatory surgery center provides the diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopic services, including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound. It features six procedure rooms and is expected to see more than 15,000 patients in its first year, according to the release.
The ASC is a project between a group of 17 physicians and management and development company Frontier Healthcare. The majority of the physicians involved in the project previously performed their cases in an office-based setting.
“We see the ASC setting as the future for outpatient procedures, particularly in specialties like GI,” said Peter Kim, MD, board member of Manhattan Endoscopy Center, in the release. “This center will provide a site of service that matches, if not exceeds, the stringent safety requirements and infection controls seen in a hospital setting and achieved through an efficient, cost-effective model, while providing for a thoroughly personalized patient experience.”
