Mr. Williams was also ordered to pay more than $1.1 million in restitution to the Medicaid program.
According to the report, People’s Choice, Mr. Williams and his wife, Cynthia, and two other employees falsely billed Medicaid for more than $1 million dollars worth of medical equipment, including diabetic supplies, nutritional supplements and other items, that were never ordered by physicians and $50,000 worth of equipment that was never provided from 2003 to 2006.
In order to submit the false claims, the company allegedly stole physician identity information to include on the claims without the physicians’ knowledge. Mr. Williams also obtained Medicaid recipient numbers — sometimes by paying the recipients to provide the information, according to the report.
Ms. Williams and the two employees pleaded guilty earlier this year. Ms. Williams was sentenced to six months in jail and five years’ probation.
