On a broader scale, infection-prevention efforts have significantly decreased the incidence of infections, such as MRSA and C. difficile, at all VA hospitals by 62 percent in hospital intensive care units and 45 percent in the other areas of the hospital, according to the news report.
A MRSA-bundle prevention program was rolled out at 149 military medical centers in 2007, including Audie Murphy. The prevention program includes more intensive screening processes to determine if a patient is already carrying an infection, such as MRSA, training on proper hand hygiene and precautions for all hospital employees and hospital champions, according to the news report.
