The peptide, CBD3, was discovered by faculty at the medical school and will be reported in the journal Nature Medicine. CBD3 in mice can interfere with signals that navigate calcium channels to produce pain.

Unlike other substances that block pain signals, CBD3 does not directly inhibit the influx of calcium, which regulates heart rhythm and vital functions in other organs.
