For their study, DHMC incorporated the Sprixx Hand Hygiene System. After implementing the hand hygiene system, the medical center increased anesthesia providers’ hourly hand hygiene events in the operating room 27-fold above baseline. In DHMC’s ICU, the hand hygiene system helped decrease rates of ventilator-associated pneumonia and catheter-related blood stream infections, in conjunction with checklists and bundles.
The Sprixx Hand Hygiene System employs the World Health Organization’s “Your 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene:”
• Before touching a patient
• Before clean/aseptic procedure
• After body fluid exposure risk
• After touching a patient
• After touching patient surroundings
