New Bill Designed to Ease Nurse Shortage Over the Next Three Years

New legislation was introduced by Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) will increase the number of work visas set aside for nurses and provide support for nursing programs, according to a news release from the American Hospital Association.

The bill, HR 2536, will set aside 20,000 employment-based visas every year for foreign-educated registered nurses and physical therapists in the next three years. Additionally, funding would be provided for U.S. nursing schools to “expand the domestic supply of nurses,” according to the report.

A three-year pilot program to keep U.S. nurses in the workforce would also be developed under this bill.
