Nevada Legislators Agree to Increased Inspections of Surgery Centers

The Nevada Assembly and Senate joint subcommittee has agreed to increase the frequency of inspections at ambulatory surgical centers, according to a report in the Las Vegas Sun.

The subcommittee’s approval will allow Assembly Bill 123 and Senate Bill 70, which would require the Nevada State Health Division to inspect medical facilities every 12 months, to move forward.

The move toward increased inspections follows a hepatitis C outbreak caused by improper infection control procedures at an ASC in the state last year.

The Nevada State Health Division plans to hire additional employees to perform the increased inspections, which it will pay for with state funds and through reserves from fees raised by surgery centers in 2007.
