In 2000, Steven Moos first faced scrutiny from the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners after it was found he was prescribing Viagra and Rogaine to customers over the Internet without proper medical examination. Following this discovery, Mr. Moos was placed on 10-year probation by the medical board. Two years later, California authorities found five packages of improperly labeled medication addressed to Mr. Moos. Oregon authorities also found cocaine and other illicit drugs in his million-dollar home in Bull Mountain, Ore.
In 2003, the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners suspended Mr. Moos’ medical license. In 2004, Mr. Moos allegedly falsified information to the DEA about the status of his medical license. He was also accused of attempting to bring into the U.S. mislabeled human growth hormone from China, for misbranding medication and fraudulently obtaining controlled substances. The same year, Mr. Moos was declared a fugitive. He was found earlier this year in the United Arab Emirates, where he is accused of posing as a well-known cosmetic surgeon and performing procedures without a medical license.
Although Mr. Moos has already pleaded not guilty to fraudulently obtaining controlled substances and medical fraud, he has pleaded guilty to lying to the DEA about his medical license.
Sentencing for Mr. Moos has been scheduled for Feb. 28.
