Members of the ACPE were asked to take an identical survey to one that was conducted in 2004. Of the 950 who responded, 64.5 percent of practices were already using electronic health records, 43.8 percent were using computerized physician entry and 33.7 percent used PDAs for clinical use. These rates are mostly higher when compared with the 2004 data, which found that 33.1 percent used EHRs, 23.3 percent used computerized physician entry and 36.2 percent used PDAs.
The study found that while more physicians were using technology, a divide still remains between those who find the new technology useful and those who feel it is frustrating.
