Negotiations Over Medical Device Fees Continue in Congressional Hearing

Although the FDA and the medical device industry have reached a preliminary agreement on user fees for the next five years, consumer groups urged legislators to promote patient safety, according to a Mass Device report.

Consumer groups argue user fees, which allow faster approval times, hurt patient safety. Some groups, such as the patient advocacy group Consumers Union, think the user fees are not high enough considering the cost of implementing performance goals.
