Representatives Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) and Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) are trying to remove language from bill HR 2962, introduced by Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), that would exclude advanced imaging, such as MRI, CT and PET scans, from the current in-office ancillary exception to the Stark self-referral law, according to the AUA Government Relations & Advocacy Department. The changes are expected to be introduced this week as an amendment during the House Energy & Commerce Committee’s mark-up of HR 3200, the America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009.
The AUA stated in the news alert that it strongly opposes this move and said it is working to ensure this amendment, if offered, is soundly defeated.
