For initial enrollment into the PatientSecure system, a patient confirms his or her identity with a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or a passport. The patient is then linked to his or her medical record in the hospital information system by placing his or her palm over the PatientSecure scanner. PatientSecure allows healthcare providers to capture a patient’s unique biometric identity by scanning the vein pattern in the palm of the hand during the registration process, which then helps to accurately identify the patient at the point of care.
