The state withheld money from the programs this fall and intends to make $1 billion in additional cuts because of the state’s budget crisis.
The coalition — called Put Patients First — is mailing a flier to 100,000 Boston area voters describing the specific effect of those cuts to Boston Medical Center and Cambridge Health Alliance, which serve a large population of the region’s low-income residents. The coalition is also planning a State House rally on Jan. 15, according to the report.
Gov. Deval Patrick has stated that he may shift some funds the state previously earmarked for Medicaid programs to other troubled areas of the state budget, but the coalition does not think these redistributed funds will end-up helping struggling community health centers, according to The Boston Globe report.
