Louisiana Supreme Court Rules Interventional Pain Procedures can Only be Performed by Physicians

The Louisiana Supreme Court denied a court order filed by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing, the Louisiana Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, according to a news release from the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.

LSBN, LANA and AANA filed the court order to allow non-physicians to perform interventional pain procedures on patients. According to the release, the ruling means that a permanent injunction issued by the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal is now final.

ASIPP and the Louisiana Society of Interventional Pain Physicians said in the release that they believe that interventional pain procedures are considered a medical practice and should only be performed by board certified physicians.
