The Health and Welfare Committee voted 12-4 to reject House Bill 951, which specifically would have allowed registered nurse anesthetists, certified nurse midwives and clinical nurse specialists, to work independently in underserved areas after serving at least three years under a physician.
The Louisiana State Medical Society opposed the bill, asking lawmakers to leave in place existing requirements that the advanced practice nurses see patients only with a “collaborative agreement” with a physician.
