Deborah Smith, RN, who specializes in infection control for the hospital, said the new measures were in response to increased influenza activity in the community and hospital employee absences due to respiratory illness, according to the report.
The new rules state that children younger than 18 and individuals who are sick with fever, cough, sore throat or other respiratory symptoms are not permitted to visit patients in the hospital.
