Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure Doubles Physician Investigations

The Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure has doubled its physician investigation caseload in the last year following criticism from lawmakers for failing to police painkiller overprescribing, according to a WTVQ report.

Board president Preston Nunnelley, MD, said the board is increasingly referring to trend reports on prescriptions in its investigations. There are 121 open investigations in Kentucky, and 65 are prescribing cases. The board has taken 66 disciplinary actions against physicians this year.
