The group has remained intact despite decreased reimbursement, regulatory changes and changes through health reform that are steering many physicians toward employment.
Alex Ammar, MD, a vascular surgeon and CEO of the surgeon group, said to lose their independence to an organization not controlled by physicians would prevent the physicians from providing the best patient care. According to Dr. Ammar and his colleagues, the philosophy of putting the patient first has enabled the firm to prosper and grow.
Wichita Surgical Specialists was founded in 1967 and currently includes 31 surgeons, 85 employees and six offices. The surgeons perform surgery at various facilities throughout the area, including Derby Family MedCenter’s ambulatory surgery center.
