The correction, published in the Joint Commission Online, a complimentary publication of The Joint Commission, is made to the note under infection prevention and control standard IC.02.02.01 EP2 that refers to intermediate-level disinfection for specula.

According to the report, high-level disinfection must be used for items such as specula.

This change took effect April 1 and applies to the ambulatory care, hospital, office-based surgery, critical access hospital and long term care programs.
