Q: What is the best way for ASCs to improve materials management?

Julie Martin: We welcome extensive input from end-users, including staff members and physicians, for things such as custom packs. So we invite representatives from all the ASCs to go to our big warehouse and actually see the products and give us their input on the supplies. If we’re going to change surgical gloves at an ASC, it is very critical to surgeons because they are the ones who will be using them, so it’s important we hear their feedback. Otherwise, we might roll out a product they won’t consider using.

Q: What other practices has HealthOne adopted to ensure staff members and physicians’ inputs are being considered?

JM: We pile the supplies at different locations, which allows the end-users to have hands-on experiences with various supplies before making a final decision on what will be bought.
