The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists has available a 36-page “Infection Control Guide for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists.”

Published in 2010, the guide, available in downloadable PDF form, covers topics including:

  • prevention measures;
  • infection control procedures for anesthesia equipment;
  • housekeeping practices and procedures; and
  • general principles of infection control for anesthesia systems.

According to the guide’s introduction, “The concern of healthcare workers, patients, and society at large, and the increased awareness of how serious and fatal infectious diseases may be contracted … prompted the AANA to prepare this guide as a means to help control infection. This guide represents reasonable and accepted practices and procedures currently used to control infection in anesthesia.”
