Infection preventionists who want to take the CBT must schedule and take the exam by Dec. 29, 2010 in order to maintain their infection control certification. The deadline to order the SARE is Dec. 1, 2010. Additionally, CBIC has decided to no longer offer one-year extensions for recertification candidates who did not pass the CBT or SARE. Candidates must now recertify prior to Dec. 31 of their certification expiration year in order to maintain CIC status.
To maintain IC certification, IC professionals must recertify within five years of passing the certification exam, and all already-certified professional are eligible for recertification. Five years was chosen as the renewal period based on the realization federal regulations and accrediting standards change and evolve frequently.
