Illinois’ Pediatrician Charged With Healthcare Fraud Pleads Guilty to Theft

Jamie S. Warnick, MD, a Decatur, Ill.-based pediatrician, has pleaded guilty to theft as part of a scheme to charge insurers for vaccines provided free of charge by the Illinois Department of Public Health, according to a report by the Herald-Review.

Dr. Warnick was charged with fraud in November. She received free vaccines from the Illinois Department of Public Health intended for uninsured and underinsured children, and between 2005 and Nov. 2009, admitted provided them to patients with insurance coverage, billing the insurers as if she had purchased the vaccines, according to the report.

The loss to the Illinois Department of Public Health due to the misuse of the vaccines is estimated at $63,500.

Dr. Warnick permanently surrendered her medical license and is scheduled for sentencing on Oct 4. She is expected to receive three years’ probation with six months home confinement, according to the report.
