Ms. Olear owned Houston-based Sefan Medical Supply, a durable medical equipment provider, and Dr. Perry served as the medical director for the company, according to the report.
According to court documents, Sefan Medical and Ms. Olear routinely billed Medicare for medically unnecessary DME, including more than 680 arthritis kits, which were either not provided or a less expensive product was provided than was billed to Medicare. Dr. Perry authorized the kits. Between December 2005 and July 2009, Ms. Olear submitted more than $2.8 million worth of claims for the arthritis kits and was paid more than $1.7 million for those claims, according to the report.
Ms. Olear and Dr. Perry will be sentenced in September. They each face up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
