The requirement extends to others who may have direct contact with patients, including medical students and volunteers. The new requirement is designed to minimize risk of infection to patients.
Healthcare employees or volunteers who have a medical reason for not undergoing vaccination may obtain a medical exemption from a physician, physician’s assistant or licensed nurse practitioner. The exemption must be renewed each year.
Others who refuse to undergo vaccination for reasons other than medical exemptions must submit a form to the health department and wear a surgical mask during each patient encounter.
