Health Groups Rolling Out Personal Health Record Guides

Several healthcare groups have joined to put together two guides about personal health records — one for clinicians and one for consumers, according to a news release. The groups include the Medical Group Management Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Osteopathic Association of Medical Informatics and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.

The guides include a frequently-asked question section about PHRs, as well as information about how these tools can be used to store and manage health information about patients’ medical conditions, allergies, medications and hospital visits.

A recent survey of Blue Cross companies revealed 90 percent of respondents either offer or are planning to offer PHRs to their members, up significantly from the 56 percent who said they offered or planned to offer them in 2008.
