“We have an open-door policy with our physicians and employees whereby collaboration, innovation and mutual respect foster a caring atmosphere to positively impact our patients and the entire community,” says James Shafer, Wilmington’s administrator.
The center received Symbion’s “Facility of the Year” award in 2007 and has also earned three “President’s Awards” from its management company for reaching established benchmarks.
Even with more than doubling the number of operating rooms since the center opened in 1992, and now performing about 10,000 procedures annually, Wilmington has not lost site of what makes it a great ASC and a great place to work.
“We work diligently toward this goal through professional, effective, and appropriate relationships and interactions with physicians, patients and staff,” Mr. Shafer says. “During our growth period, we have kept in perspective the necessity to listen to and accommodate physicians wherever possible to assure a quality outcome.”
Wilmington has seven operating rooms (up from three when the center originally opened) and three procedure rooms used by 83 active physicians, 19 of which are owners. The center performs procedures in orthopedics, ophthalmology, general surgery, plastic surgery, podiatry, ENT, pain management, urology, gynecology and endoscopy.
