“My previous perception of the medical industry was one where big hospitals charged big dollars for everything,” Mr. Bleier says. “There did not seem to be much in terms of innovation or customer focus.”
That perception changed as he learned about the ASC industry and the mission of the center.
“The reason our center exists is simply to provide a better form of patient-focused healthcare,” he says. “The fact we provide this at a lower cost than the hospital is a bonus.”
The Orthopedic & Sports Surgery Center opened in June 2006. It has three operating rooms, one minor procedure room and a shell for a fourth OR when the center is ready to expand. The center focuses on orthopedics and performs some pain management, and is on pace for approximately 2,400 cases in 2008.
It has eight physician owners along with a podiatrist who recently joined the center and a pain management provider who has been with the ASC since the beginning of the year. And it’s a center that Mr. Bleier has seen grow tremendously in his short time as a member of the staff.
“It’s most notably with our 23-hour stay program for joint replacements,” he says. “We have performed a number of partial knee replacements along with total shoulder replacements and the response we have received from patients has been tremendous.”
It is this significant growth and the service the Orthopedic & Sports Surgery Center is providing to its patients that has made the ASC a place Mr. Bleier is proud to call his employer.
“I never would have been involved in something this exciting and rewarding in my previous career, and to know we are helping members of the local community makes everyone in our ASC very proud,” he says.
