These rates encompass three full years of claims data from July 1, 2007-June 30, 2010.
This year, the national 30-day mortality rates for heart attack have continued to decline, falling 0.3 percent from 16.2 percent (2006-2009) to 15.9 percent (2007-2010). Mortality rates for heart failure and pneumonia, however, increased slightly over the same period, showing an increase from 11.2 to 11.3 percent for heart failure and 11.6 to 11.9 percent for pneumonia, respectively.

CMS also released 2007-2010 national 30-day readmissions rates for heart attack (19.8 percent), heart failure (24.8 percent) and pneumonia (18.4 percent). These rates fell slightly for heart failure and pneumonia. However, the 30-day readmission rate for heart attack increased slightly.
