The reporting initiative, the California Hospitals and Assessment Reporting Task Force, was created in 2004. Currently, more than 240 healthcare facilities report to the task force on a number of quality metrics, including infection rates.

According to the report, participating hospitals have been urging the task force to standardize and realign its reporting process with other reporting groups, most notably with CMS’ Hospital Compare. Late last month, CHA board members agreed to stop its support of the task force’s initiative because an agreement on reporting requirements could not be reached, according to the report.
CHART Executive Director Bruce Spurlock, MD, said the group’s board will meet in December to decide how it will move forward. CHA’s decision to withdraw its support can be a significant one as nearly all of CHART’s participants are CHA constituents.
