Ms. McClintock formerly worked as a registered nurse and nurse recruiter and helped recruit nurses following Lee Memorial’s $535 million purchase of Gulf Coast Hospital and Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center from Hospital Corporation of America.

Ms. McClintock’s husband, Ralph McClintock, then posed as the owner of Corporate American Recruiting Enterprises, and the pair worked together in the nurse recruitment process. As a result, Lee Memorial paid CARE approximately $195,000 for 15 nurses in 2006. It was later discovered that many of the nurses Lee Memorial paid CARE for were already absorbed in the acquisition of the hospitals, according to the report.

Ms. McClintock agreed to enter into a plea agreement in which she would serve two years in prison and pay $700,000 in restitution and fees. Mr. McClintock committed suicide in 2009, according to the report.
