Ana Alvarez, MD, and Sandra Mateos will serve 30 years and 7 years in prison, respectively. The pair, who worked at Saint Jude Rehab Center in Doral, Fla., was accused of conspiring to pay kickbacks to patients in the form of $150 payments in exchange for their Medicare numbers. Dr. Alvarez was also accused of unnecessarily ordering hundreds of HIV infusion treatments that pocketed Saint Jude more than $8 million, according to the report.
