FDA: Repackaged Avastin Caused Eye Infections in Florida

The FDA has issued an alert that repackaged intravitreal injections of the drug Avastin have caused at least a dozen serious eye infections in the Miami area, according to an FDA news release.

The Florida Department of Health notified the FDA of a cluster of streptococcus endophthalmitis infections in three clinics, following intravitreal injection of the repackaged Avastin.

 

The tainted injections were traced to a pharmacy in Hollywood, Fla.
