FDA Report Reveals Details on Novartis Nebraska Plant Shutdown

A recent FDA report detailed the 10 deficiencies that caused Novartis to shut down its Lincoln, Neb., manufacturing plant in December 2011, according to a Journal Star report.

One of the biggest violations was a continuing failure to investigate complaints in a timely manner. The report cited a backlog of 1,360 investigations. So far, Novartis estimates losses at $115 million in direct costs related to the shutdown and $85 million in lost sales.
