The FDA originally linked contaminated heparin to some Chinese suppliers in 2008, when 80 U.S. patients died and hundreds of others experienced allergic reactions following the use of the drug. The 14 newly discovered companies joined eight other Chinese suppliers on an import alert list that allows the FDA to stop shipments at the U.S. border.
