FDA Approves Update of Canon’s CR-2 Retinal Camera

The FDA has cleared Canon’s CR-2 PLUS digital non-mydriatic retinal camera, an update of the company’s CR-2 model, according to a Canon news release.

Canon is now releasing the new model, which adds the ability to perform fundus autofluorescence photography, used to detect macular residue that gathers in the retinal pigment epithelial layer.

 

Weighing 44 pounds, the new model provides red-free and cobalt digital filters useful in evaluating vascular and nerve fiber layers.
